“Problem Solving” Questions

Let’s get started with Problem Solving! We’ll dive right in and pick up details as we go.

On the next pages, you will encounter half a dozen questions. Go ahead and give them a try. You can answer and review each one individually, or do them as a batch and review them all afterward. Generally, one at a time is most thorough, but if you start to lose energy you might be able to reenergize yourself by answering a few at a time and then reviewing.

One highlight of this module is a specific method dealing with prime numbers: identifying a prime number. Recall that a prime number is a number whose only factors are 1 and itself. For example, 7 is prime, because its only factors are 1 and 7 (“factors” are by definition whole numbers), but 6 is not prime, because in addition to 1 and 6, it has the factors 2 and 3. It’s not always obvious how to identify whether a number is prime. You’ll need that skill for the GMAT and you will see it in action in this module.
